When’s the last time you took a walk in the redwoods?
I think we all take for granted what beauty we are surrounded by on a daily basis, at least until we submerge ourselves into it. This morning I was running ahead of schedule and decided to take a walk in a beautiful grove of redwoods. I could hear the crunching of my shoes and the wind gently blowing through the large boughs of the tree. It’s magical to walk in a redwood forest. The smells, sights, and sounds will lull you into peace and calm your mind.
In reality, the redwoods were quite noisy this morning, but it almost acted like a type of white noise. In this noise I found clarity, peace, and a different perspective on some things I’m experiencing in life. I also found validation.
It’s been tough settling into the role of small business owner and I’m not used to working a normal work week. For the past two years, I’ve worked nothing less than 80-90 hour weeks. It took a toll on my health and sanity, but I thought what I was doing was right.
You must be busy.
You must always hustle.
You must make the money you don’t have time to spend.
You must make the vacation money for the vacations you are too busy to take.
I could keep going but all in all, it’s ridiculous. It’s literally the stupidest and most unhealthiest mantra I’ve ever followed. I just want to be happy and be the best mom and wife I can be. And you know what? I’m slowly getting there. It takes time to reverse an unhealthy lifestyle and mindset established all the way back from early on.
If you’re ever given the chance to take the walk – do it. Need some ideas on where to walk? Let me know – I’d love to give you my suggestions.
Have a wonderful Father’s Day!
