“There are no bad pictures; that’s just how your face looks sometimes.” ― Abraham Lincoln

Like most moms, I can never have enough photos of my three kiddos. What began as a quest to capture every milestone and moment of their lives, turned into a hobby, passion, and now, a growing business.

Over fifteen years ago, I picked up my first “fancy” camera and began experimenting with different lenses, lighting, and exposure. Each time I mastered a new technique, I could feel my devotion to the art of photography intensify and I wanted to learn more.

In 2014, my father passed away unexpectedly. Remembering the pictures I had taken of him prior to his death, I was inspired to establish a Pay It Forward Project in his honor. With this project, I have had the privilege of photographing hundreds of families at little to no cost, with any proceeds received being donated to a charitable organization.

Since establishing Sandi Petersen Photography in 2016, I still make time for Pay It Forward photo shoots throughout the year. As a seasoned natural light and studio photographer, my shooting style is natural, easygoing, and fun, capturing authentic images and bringing them to beautiful life with the magic of light and exposure.

Most days you can find me in my editing chair, making photo-magic, enjoying the beautiful Humboldt outdoors with my husband and three kids, or facing off with my foul-mouthed parrot and succulent eating chocolate lab. If I’m not at home, I’m in my fun and creative studio space in sunny Fortuna!

I love working with wild toddlers, cracking jokes at once stern-faced children, and making reluctant husbands feel like male models. What can I say? I like a challenge. Whether I’m photographing a newborn, orchestrating a senior portrait shoot, making a woman feel beautiful or coordinating multigenerational family photos, I feel most alive when I am behind a lens.
